Tehran: Iran's Foreign Ministry on Sunday summoned the Dutch ambassador to protest against the controversial film Fitna (strife) by a Dutch politician, state radio said.
Iran denounced the film by Geert Wilders as “heinous'' and urged European governments to stop any further broadcasting of the 17-minute-film which depicts Islam as a violent faith.
A senior diplomat from Slovenia, which currently holds the European Union presidency, was also summoned, the broadcast continued.
The movie, which went live on the internet on Thursday, has been condemned by many international figures including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
The Australian government is the most recent to condemn the film. Foreign Minister Stephen Smith called the film “highly offensive,'' adding that “it is an obvious attempt to generate discord between faith communities''.
