Manama: Iran's ambassador to Kuwait will be running in his country's parliament elections in March, a Kuwaiti daily reported.
According to Al Anba newspaper, Rouhullah Qahremani Chabok will seek to represent Rasht, the capital of Gilan Province and the largest city on Iran's Caspian Sea coast, where he was the top administrator before his appointment as ambassador in Kuwait in February 2011.
The newspaper report on Tuesday did not mention what motivated the ambassador's move or when he submitted his application.
Candidates in the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) elections on March 2 had the last week of December to register under a process handled by the interior ministry.
The ministry said that 5,395 potential candidates have registered. However, candidates have to be vetted by the Guardian Council and each application will be screened before a hopeful is allowed to run for the 290-seat assembly.
