Manama: Iran has appointed Ali Reza Enayati as its new ambassador to Kuwait, a Kuwaiti daily said.

Enayati, the head of the Gulf affairs department at the Iranian foreign ministry, will replace Ambassador Ruhallah Qahramani who left Kuwait in September, Al Rai reported on Wednesday, citing sources it did not identify.

The daily added that the Kuwaiti government had approved the nomination.

The nominated ambassador, who reportedly speaks Arabic, has a PhD in Arabic Literature.

Last month, Kuwait and Iran reiterated their readiness to move forward with their bilateral relations and cooperation

Holding the Second Session of the Kuwaiti-Iranian Commission in Kuwait City, the foreign ministers of both countries, Shaikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah, and Mohammad Javad Zarif, said they were looking forward to closer ties.

Shaikh Sabah said the meeting was an opportunity to hold consultations and exchange view on best means “to enrich the progress of cooperation and coordination on issues of mutual concern.”

“We are certain and very optimistic that our keenness on the activation of this mission and the fulfilment of the aspirations of our two countries will lead to successful results,” he said, quoted by Kuwait News Agency.

“This session is being held while our region is witnessing economic, political and security developments that require all brothers and friends to deal with them in a common responsible spirit, for the sake of safeguarding regional security and stability and boosting peoples’ prosperity,” he said.
