Geneva: A UN official says a “fairly high-level” meeting of diplomats from Russia, the United States and the United Nations is planned in Geneva next week to discuss Syria’s conflict.

The expected meeting comes amid growing concerns about humanitarian access to the city of Aleppo.

UN Geneva spokesman Rheal Leblanc said Friday “you could probably expect a meeting at a fairly high level.”

Jessy Chahine, spokeswoman for the office of UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura, says details remain to be worked out about “when and if the meeting takes place.” She declined to specify whether it would amount to more than regular technical meetings.

Intra-Syrian talks were suspended in April. De Mistura has been working to resume them.

De Mistura is meeting German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin Friday.
