Ramallah: Palestinian women prisoners in Hasharon Prison have been punished for not observing Israeli Independence Day sirens, according to an official with the Palestinian Prisoners Association, who spoke to Gulf News.

Two-minute sirens go off across the country to mark Israeli Independence Day, where Israelis are expected to stand in silence to observe the occasion.

Instead, the women prisoners raised the Palestinian flag and began singing nationalistic songs.

“The women were punished by denying them several daily rights and also denying them family visits,” said the official.

In Hasharon, a total of 26 Palestinian women prisoners are kept behind bars in miserable conditions.
