Dubai: The Israeli occupation military set up roadblocks, cordoned off Palestinian villages and deployed reinforcements to the West Bank on Wednesday, a day after an Israeli colonist was killed in a drive-by shooting by suspected Palestinian gunmen.

Some 400,000 Israelis illegally live in colonies in the West Bank, which is home to 2.2 million Palestinians.

The Palestinians want the land to be part of their future state.

Around 200,000 Israelis live in east Jerusalem, which was also occupied in the war and later annexed and which Palestinians seek as their capital.

Israeli troops have combed villages around the city of Nablus searching for the suspects in Tuesday’s attack near the Havat Gilad colony, a military statements aid.

Sporadic violence has been a permanent feature in Palestinian territories, particular those with Jewish colonies nearby.

However, violence has increased since US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Ocucpied Jerusalem as Israel’s capital last month.

Palestinians have taken to the streets to defend their land and their honour in the midst of draconian Israeli military measures used to quell the protests.
