Ramallah: In the latest punitive measure, the Israeli regime has banned the burial of dead Palestinian residents of occupied Jerusalem in their home city, if they were suspected of being involved in attacks.

The Israeli daily, Yedioth Ahronoth, reported on Thursday the new ban was authorised by Public Minister Gilad Erdan.

Under the new rules, Israeli police get to decide where the funeral and burial is allowed to take place.

Erdan said authorities want to prevent incitement on the streets of occupied Jerusalem during funerals.

“Israel wants all dead Palestinians to be buried outside the Jerusalem municipal boundaries,” Fakhri Abu Diyab, who heads the local committee in defence of occupied Jerusalem, told Gulf News.

Palestinians say this is one step in many by Israeli authorities to kick Palestinians out of occupied Jerusalem.

Israeli authorities carry out regular home demolitions and almost never issue building permits to Palestinian families.

Arabic signage and street names have been consistently replaced with Hebrew ones.

Jews have consistently carried out raids on Al Haram Al Sharif by provocatively performing religious rituals at the holy Muslim site.

Palestinians say they have the full consent, protection and encouragement of Israeli authorities despite the fact that under a status quo agreement, Jews are allowed to visit the site but are forbidden to perform religious rituals.
