Ramallah: The Israeli Knesset is discussing a draft law which would prevent Palestinians from running for parliament if they reject Israeli policies.

According to Israeli media reports, the proposed law seeks to amend a current law which bans certain people from running for parliament, including those who participate in ‘illegal’ activities against the Israeli state, its military forces and its people.

If the amendment passes, it would end the political careers of many Palestinian activists such as Knesset member Haneen Al Zoabi who participated in the first flotilla to Gaza and also Basel Ghattas who took part in the third flotilla.

Al Zoabi has termed Israeli military action in the past as ‘criminal’ and accused the military of refusing medical assitance to two wounded passengers on the flotilla who bled to death.

Both Al Zoabi and Ghattas have been highly vocal and critical against Israeli actions and have also been highly effective in exposing Israeli crimes.
