Dubai: A Lebanese general security officer jokingly asked if a Pokemon had come to issue a passport when a man was detained briefly for catching Pokemons near a security building.

The man, believed to be in his early 20s, was playing Pokemon Go on his iPhone and catching Pokemons before he was detained for a brief period over suspiciously filming the security building at Al Mathaff area in Beirut.

Once the security officer spotted the man with his phone between his hands and positioned up in the air, according to different Lebanese news websites, the man was summoned and detained for a brief period.

Asked if he had been filming the security building, the Lebanese man denied and explained that he had been playing the trendy game Pokemon Go and catching Pokemons.

According to online media reports, the man said he had positioned his phone in the building’s direction since he had spotted a Pokemon and was about to catch it.

To corroborate his claims, the man agreed to hand over his phone to the security officer, who instantly let the man walk free once he discovered that his photo gallery did not contain any images of the security building.

Some media reports cited the security officer telling the man cynically ‘did the Pokemon come here to apply for a passport’ before letting him go.

Pokemon GO is smart game app for iPhone and Android devices that allows players to use real locations to search far and wide in the real world to discover Pokemons and catch hundreds of them while exploring the surroundings.
