Ramallah: A Jordanian man has been accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting his daughter before murdering her and their unborn child.
According to Jordanian news source Graca News, the 48-year-old carpenter first started raping his daughter when she was 15.
The daughter told her mother about the assault but because of the man’s history of violence against the family she did not confront her husband, according to the report. When the man learnt his wife knew he was his daughter’s rapist, he beat her and threatened to divorce her if she spoke about the abuse.
Graca News’ source said that the father raped his daughter repeatedly over a five-year period, preventing her from talking to people and going out, except to school.
When he learnt that he had impregnated his daughter he researched home abortions on the internet. He then drugged his daughter, cut her open and removed the foetus.
The father threw the foetus away, but was faced with the lifeless remains of his 21-year-old daughter. The woman’s mother awoke, saw her daughter’s body and screamed hysterically.
Neighbours contacted the security services and civil defence, who organised the transfer of the body to hospital and contacted the police. When confronted by the authorities the man collapsed and did not deny the murder or sexually assaulting his daughter.
An autopsy at Prince Faisal Hospital in Zarqa revealed that the death resulted from severe bleeding and rupture of the uterus. It also showed that the foetus was five months old.
The father has been charged with murder, rape and abortion.
