Washington: The United States and its allies staged 19 air strikes on Daesh targets in Syria and Iraq in the latest round of daily attacks, the Combined Joint Task Force said on Wednesday.

The strikes occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

In Syria, all five airstrikes hit near the city of Kobani and struck Daesh tactical units, fighting positions and vehicles.

The task force said a total of 14 strikes hit in Iraq near Bayji, Falluja, Mosul and Tal Afar hit tactical units, vehicles, excavators, machine guns and buildings.

Daesh last year took over large swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria and prompted the US and regional allies to form a coalition to counter the terror group. On Sunday, CIA director John Brennan said that the momentum of Daesh in Iraq and Syria has been blunted and the extremist group is not “on the march” as it was previously. “Clearly ISIS’s (Daesh) momenutm inside of Iraq and Syria has been blunted, and it has been stopped. So they are not on the march as they were several months ago,” Brennan said on “Fox News Sunday. The United States and its allies have conducted air strikes against the group for months. Brennan also credited Iraqi government forces for pushing back against Daesh.
