Baghdad: A newly released video of Saddam Hussain's execution showed the prosecutor general of the trial celebrating Saddam's death while chanting sectarian slogans, according to a newspaper report.

The Al Hayat newspaper said the demonstration shown in the video took place an hour after Saddam's execution and that participants also threw insults at the dead Saddam.

In an interview with Al Hayat on Friday, prosecutor-general Munqidh Al Farun said that his participation in the demonstration over Saddam's death was "impulsive" and "[was] not pre-arranged."

Al Farun said he was "surprised" by the number of people who came to celebrate. "They carried me on their shoulders, along with high officials in the state," he said.
