Cairo: A car bomb targeting a judge exploded in a major district in the Egyptian capital on Friday, state television reported.

The explosion occurred as judge Ahmad Abu Al Fetouh was moving inside his car in the Nasr City in eastern Cairo, the broadcaster added.

Neither the judge nor any other one was injured, the report said.

Abu Al Fetouh is a chief judge of a criminal court hearing a case involving followers of the now-outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, security sources said.

No one has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

It comes two weeks after unknown gunmen shot dead a senior army officer outside his house on Cairo outskirts.

Egypt has seen a series of attacks mainly targeting security forces since the army deposed president Mohammad Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood in mid-2013 following mass protests against his rule.

Most attacks have been claimed by a local militant group loyal to Daesh.
