Cairo: Four months after she joined EgyptAir as flight attendant in May 2014, Samar Ezz Al Deen posted on her Facebook a picture showing an air hostess walking in water and pulling a suitcase as a plane nosedives in the background.
Samar, 27, was one of the 66 people who died on Thursday when the EgyptAir flight Ms804 plunged into the Mediterranean Sea after departure from Paris while en route to Cairo.
Six other crew, three security staff and 56 passengers were among the victims.
Paradoxically, Samar died exactly two years after becoming an employee of the national carrier.
The young woman’s death in the way she foretold triggered an outpouring of grief on social media.
“She displayed this photo four times on her Facebook page,” commented her friend Tamer Abdou. “She had a deep feeling that she would die in this way.”
“I heard a lot that a person who is about to die feels this in advance,” said an online commentator. “She appeared to have sensed her fate. May Allah have mercy on her and provide solace to her family.”
Samar was married 10 months ago. She was nicknamed the “face of the moon” because of her characteristic affinity and calm facial features.
“The last time she called us was shortly before the plane’s departure from Paris,” her father, Ezz Al Deen Yousuf, told a local TV station.
“This was customary of her before boarding any flight. She wanted to inquire after us,” added the grief-stricken father. “Her voice showed no strain or that there were problems with the plane. On the contrary, she confirmed to us that the flight would arrive in Cairo as scheduled.”
Egypt’s Pilots Association said it will hold a mourning ceremony on Monday in remembrance of Samar and her six colleagues who died in the tragedy.
