Cairo: Egypt's government said on Wednesday that it would comply with a landmark court ruling allowing millions of Egyptian expatriates to vote in the upcoming elections.

"The government respects the rulings of courts," said the cabinet in a statement following a meeting. The government added in the statement that its legislative committee will discuss with an electoral commission, tasked with arranging for the upcoming parliamentary elections' "mechanisms of implementing the ruling".

The statement, however, did not say explicitly if the government will be ready to ensure that the Egyptian expatriates will cast their ballots in the parliamentary elections due to begin on November 28.

The Administrative Court ruled on Tuesday that the Egyptian expatriates have the right to vote in their country's elections. The court ordered the government to set up polling stations in the Egyptian embassies abroad to allow those Egyptians to vote.

For decades, Egyptian expatriates were deprived of the right of voting. Egyptians abroad are estimated at 9 to 10 million, according to the foreign ministry.

The November polls will be Egypt's first since a popular uprising unseated long-standing president Hosni Mubarak in February.
