Abu Dhabi: A squadron of UAE Air Force F-16s stationed on an air base in Jordan  launched a seriesof airstrikes on Daesh (Isil) terrorist targets on Tuesday morning, the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces has announced.

It said that the UAE jet fighters had struck their targets and returned safely to their base, the official news agency WAM reported.

The UAE has stationed a squadron of its F16 fighter jets in Jordan to support military efforts against the Daesh terror group.

General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has ordered the despatch of the squadron in line with the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, WAM has announced earlier.

The move reaffirms the UAE’s support to Jordan for its leading role and immense sacrifices for the region’s security and stability, particularly by “martyr and hero Muath Al Kasaesbeh”.
