Dubai: Shaikha Latifa Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum inaugurated a heritage centre at the Sakina Bint Al Hussain School as part of an educational initiative to foster cultural awareness and strengthen Emirati national identity.

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority launched the heritage centre initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Education with the aim of imparting lessons that provide comprehensive insights about the country’s cultural values and traditions. More than 2,000 pupils will benefit from the heritage centre’s educational programmes annually. Similar centres were opened in Al Kuwait Primary School in 2012 and at Al Hudaibah Primary School for kindergarten students in 2011.

Dubai Culture has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dubai Education Zone to develop heritage centres at the Omar Bin Al Khattab Model School, Utbah Bin Ghazwan Primary School, and Zayed Bin Sultan Primary School.

“Our heritage, passed on from generation to generation, is the primary driver of our growth. To sustain this momentum, it is imperative to preserve our national heritage as well as foster its true understanding among our youngsters at an early age,” said Saeed Al Naboudah, Acting Director General of Dubai Culture.

“By instilling the importance of values and traditions, we are enabling them to further contribute to our evolving cultural scene,” he added.
