Dubai: A handmade herbal Quran has been on public display in Dubai since December 7.

Crafted from around 200 herbs, the book, the only of its kind in the world, was unveiled by Heddem Arts, a company that specialises in collectable Quran books and rare Islamic arts and calligraphy.

Abdul Azeaz Bin Hassan Moulavi Malabari, Islamic Religious Advisor at Heddem Arts, said that the herbal Quran was created by Hamdi Taher, a Turkish Unani doctor over 23 years from 1957 to 1979.

Everything in the Quran, including engravings of letters, chapter names, border designs, page numbers and sheets are made from medicinal herbal extracts.

Therapeutic properties

“The herbal sheets have therapeutic properties. When the reader moves his fingers on the letters or in and around the pages, the herbal mixture seeps through the pores in the fingers, providing health benefits. It is truly one of a kind,” said Abdul Azeaz Bin Hassan.

The Quran, which has 606 pages and weighs about 7.5 kilos, will be on display at Heddam Arts in Garhoud till December 11.”
