Youth media awards will accept entries

Dubai: The Organising Committee of the Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Youth Media Award announced the launch of the second edition of the award.

The award aims to stimulate creative energies of emerging media talent in the UAE.

The competition will accept submissions from February 15 until March 22, after which the public will start voting for the finalists in each category.

"Launching the second edition of the award is a symbol of our continuous support to Emirati talents and providing them with opportunities to excel in the media sector given the vital and imperative role that this sector plays in portraying Dubai's image in the global scene and we are confident that this award will attract a tremendous pool of UAE talents and will achieve more success than the first edition," said Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and Patron of the award.

Shaikh Majid has commissioned the addition of a fourth category to the existing three of radio, video and print media in this year's edition for the best presenter/moderator in a step aimed at expanding the award.

A jury of distinguished media professionals will evaluate the entries and draw up a list of qualifiers in each category.

The shortlisted entries will be submitted to a public vote, and featured on Arab Media Group's newspapers, radio stations and television channels.

The recently launched Noor Dubai TV will play an essential role in the second edition as the exclusive media sponsor. It will also produce a special weekly programme in which participants will compete for a presenter's position, ultimately winning a cash prize and a one year contract with Noor Dubai TV.

The organising committee has declared that the prizes allocated to the award exceed Dh1 million as well as prizes awarded to the voters from the public.

The Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Youth Media Award is a testimony to the powerful role that media plays in modern society, bringing out the latent potential for media excellence among young Emiratis.
