Dubai: The Media and Marketing Show’s (MMS) 7th edition at the Dubai International Conference and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) held its first conference ‘Media in Sharjah’, organised in collaboration with the Sharjah Media Centre (SMC).

The conference discussed media progression in the emirate, and the sector’s role in promoting Sharjah as the cultural capital for all Arab and Islamic States. It also highlighted Sharjah’s development of Radio Sharjah and announced the launch of the Government Communication Unit (GCU).

The GCU will operate under the umbrella of the Sharjah Media Centre to enhance communication between government authorities and citizens.

“As part of the efforts of the Sharjah Government to open and sustain genuine channels of communication with the public, His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, gave directions for the establishment of a Government Communication Unit that will mainly be responsible towards unifying government messages and coordinating our government activities,” said Osama Samra, Director of the Sharjah Media Centre. He also added that SMC is in its first phase of completing the internal structure of the unit.

The GCU will comprise five key departments which will include Media Monitoring, Press, Strategic Communication, Planning and Coordination and Social Media.
