Dubai: The membership of Dubai Press Club (DPC) has expanded to include media professionals from all platforms, including broadcast and online media instead of only print, as part of its new initiative.

A special category, family membership is also on offer, Mariam Bin Fahd, Executive Director, Dubai Press Club, said at a press gathering yesterday.

The DPC announced the launch of a comprehensive new membership programme, extending special privileges to various categories of members.

The new categories include Practising Membership for journalists working in the print, broadcast and online media; Affiliate Membership for media professionals in the media departments of government organisations, diplomats, freelance journalists and public relations professionals; Visiting Membership for journalists visiting the UAE for a short period; Photographer Membership for photographers, and Student Membership for media students.

Mariam said: "The new membership programme reflects qualitative changes, as the framework of the membership is expanded to include media professionals from all platforms. Lecturers and media students, PR professionals and media consultants in governmental bodies and private companies related to the media industry, are also covered in our comprehensive membership programme."

She said the membership offers extensive services, including priority to members to participate in training programmes, workshops, events and other major initiatives organised by Dubai Press Club throughout the year.

Incentives

The membership also entitles journalists to gain exclusive access to the facilities and services of the International Association of Press Clubs (IPAC), which include 26 press clubs worldwide.

"A host of incentives are included in the Dubai Press Club membership. The privilege will enable visiting journalists to co-ordinate or conduct press interviews with media spokespersons in the public and private sectors, help them book hotel rooms at reduced rates, coordinate with the authorities on obtaining UAE entry visas, and avail priority in the use of meeting and convention halls equipped with high-tech equipment," Mariam said.

The members will also have 24/7 access to the library, computers with online access, and refreshment facilities at DPC free of charge.

Dubai Press Club has distributed a manual specifying the privileges including discounts and special offers to members at hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, tourism and travel agencies, musical centres, medical and therapy centres as well as offers from 100 sponsor companies in the UAE.

Mariam added: "Since 1999, Dubai Press Club has issued more than 2,000 memberships to journalists in the UAE, the Arab world and globally. Today, we are looking forward to expanding our service base and enhancing our services offered to media professionals."
