Abu Dhabi: Newly elected members of the Journalist's Association in the capital are planning to address how to encourage Emirati journalists who had left the profession to return, a senior member of the committee told Gulf News.
"Many fellow UAE National journalists have left their profession in recent years, whether for personal or professional reasons…among the methods we will use is visiting them and discussing their concerns in order to find the best solution to convince them to re-join this this dynamic field," said Amal Al Muhairi, who was elected as the head of the new three person committee on Wednesday.
She was unanimously chosen , along with two of her peers, Buthaina Al Reyami and Abdul Kareem Alsinani during the association's yearly elections on Wednesday.
"This is the first time I nominate myself and very pleased that I was selected to the committee…immediately after the elections, we met with members of the main branch, which is based in Dubai, to discuss our duties and what are some of the issues and concerns of our members that need to be addressed," Amal said.
The candidates were elected by 31 members of the association, who turned out in support of their fellow journalists after successfully registering for the election by its deadline on Sunday, February 12.
"There was a good turnout from among our members in Abu Dhabi, especially among our female members. The three candidates chosen will bring their unique skills and experiences in order to address our community's various concerns with fresh perspectives…we look forward to seeing what they can accomplish and will provide support every step of the way," Mohammad Yousuf, chairman of the UAE Journalists Association, said. He was recently re-elected to the position for a third time by the association's Board of Directors.
