Dubai: Monday marks April Fool’s Day, a day when people from all over the world play pranks on friends and family.

April Fool’s Day is believed to have originated in France in 1598, when the Gregorian Calendar was undergoing reformation.

The new calendar changed the date of New Year’s Day from April 1 to January 1. Many people who missed the memo and celebrated New Year’s Day on April 1 were mocked and called fools, so the day became known as April Fool’s Day.

Gulf News spoke to UAE residents via Gulf News Facebook to learn about how they plan on playing pranks on their friends.

An Indian teacher, Anupriya Dayal Budhwani, 27, has a plan ready for her husband.

“My husband Carl is obsessed with his car. I plan to buy one of those stickers that give the illusion of cracked glass and stick it to his car in the morning.”

Anas Eid, Jordanian, 18, does not believe in April Fool’s Day and thinks that it makes people childish. “Pranks can even sometimes harm people physically and
emotionally.”

Indian student, Don Joe Martin, 17, recalled the best prank that was played on him.

“The best prank I ever witnessed was my friend’s prank; he made us believe that he was leaving to another school. We were all saddened about the news, we even threw him a surprise party. The very next day he told us that it was an April Fool.”
