Sharjah: Sharjah Television on Monday unveiled an exclusive package of programmes to be telecast this Ramadan, with a new identity that reflects the spirit of the fasting month.

The Ramadan programme grid was announced at a special ceremony held by the Sharjah Media Corporation (SMC).

Amnah Khamis Al Nakhi, CEO of SMC and Director-General of Sharjah Radio and TV, said the Ramadan programme schedule for this year is aimed at educating and entertaining families through a variety of high quality and responsible programmes as per the principle of Sharjah TV.

According to her, what really distinguishes this year's Ramadan package is the excellent quality and novel ideas. These will be suitably reflected in the locally produced and acquired programmes, as well as in the ones that bear human and Islamic values aimed at reflecting the Arab-Islamic identity.

"This year, we will bring to our viewers a spectrum of religious, social, cultural and entertaining programmes appropriate for all our viewers in the holy month without alienating the Arabic drama that our audience yearns for," Amnah said.

Contests

She added that Sharjah TV will broadcast high quality, meaningful and entertaining Arabic drama series that adhere to the values and traditions of the Arab community.

The programmes that will be broadcast during Ramadan include contests such as the Sharjah Munshid 5, which is an unprecedented Islamic chanting competition.

Religious programmes include Inna Amiloon (We work), which deals with Quran verses revolving around good and forbidden deeds, and Wa Eqtarabat Al Sa'ah (The approach of doomsday), presented by renowned Islamic scholar Dr Omar Abdul Kafi, who will speak about the small and big signs of doomsday, the appearances and images of these signs and their impact on the life of Muslims.

The secrets of magicians and demons will be revealed in the programme called Kashf Al Mastour (The revealed secret), which discusses issues related to witchcraft and explains the danger of black magic in the Quran and the Sunnah.

He will interview some examples of magicians and people affected by witchcraft, to throw more light on this dangerous issue, and the treatment by the Ruqiah (reading verses of the Quran).

Entertainment programmes include Khawater 6 and Umsiyat Ramadaniya, Al Camera Warak (Candid camera), as well as a special show for children titled Square 9, and a variety of Arabic drama series including the famous Bab Al Hara in its fifth season and Al Qittah Al Amiya'a (The blind cat) as well as a series about prominent women in Islamic history.
