Dubai Port Saeed Plaza Park, located near Deira City Centre, is now open for the general public to enjoy.
Spread across 1.9 hectares, the new park has a rubberised jogging track, in addition to flowering bushes, trees, jasmine bushes and has come up with an estimated cost of Dh3 million.
Residents staying in area around the park could be seen enjoying their morning walk and jog in the area and many, who work in offices located nearby, also said they liked to walk through the park to their offices.
“I am quite happy that we now have this park near our office. It has not only beautified this area, it is quite refreshing to see greenery in the morning as I park my car a little further away from office and walk through this area to my office which refreshes me,” said Irene, a sales professional in a company in Deira.
“This park is very close to where I live and now that it is open, I plan to start my morning jogging routine,” said Subhash, another resident.
The park was inaugurated by Hussein Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, as part of 32nd forestation week activities.
Lootah said establishing parks had an important role in the social development due to the direct link with family entertainment and development of environment and communities and also contributed toward bettering the environment.
“We considered the climate change and global environmental situations, aiming for the reduction of environmental pollution, gas emissions and savings in energy consumption. The municipality applied highest international standards for buildings and green cities, to preserve our natural resources and environment. The green roofs save 25 per cent of the power. Therefore, the idea of green roofs and heat insulation plants has been implemented in most of our projects, residential parks, and squares,” he said.
“Port Saeed Park also incorporated criteria in which people can enjoy open parks with facilities made out of recycled materials. We expect it to be a place for social interaction, activities, comfort, relaxation and fun ,” he added.
The Dubai Municipality has used innovative alternative solar energy systems, in addition to LED technology, to meet lighting needs.
The park project was approved over three years ago to beautify the Port Saeed Area.
Ahmad Abdul Karim, Director of Public Parks and Horticulture said the park has been designed in accordance with the common system of landscaping combining the engineering and nature.
“We can see radial symmetry through the homogeneity of the trees on roadsides and walking tracks in park, while the non-symmetrical green hills and curved lines in some areas and flowers are the natural characteristics.”
The department planted 180 trees to provide shade and different seasonal trees, which gives diversified flowers and aromas in addition to 650 meters of flowering bushes and 752 metres of jasmine bushes along with green walls.
It has over 7909 square metres of cultivated soil with many types of bushes and small trees and an area of 2000 square metres of petunias in addition to 5904 square meters of landscaping.
