Dubai: The beach side of the Jumeirah Corniche project has reached 4.5km following the completion of the second phase of the project, an official from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on Saturday.

The completed second phase spans 2.5km and will open for public use before the end of the month. This accomplishment has shot up the completion rate of the project to 77 per cent, in time for the final opening in October.

“The newly completed sector of the Corniche will be open to the public in the third week of this month, and walking and jogging enthusiasts are invited to practise and enjoy their hobbies at the Corniche, particularly as walking is growing into a good healthy practice among all community members,” Engineer Maitha Bin Udai, CEO of RTA Traffic and Roads Agency, said.

“The Jumeirah Corniche project extends about 7km and the project encompasses a five-metre-wide walk, four-metre-wide jogging track, and rest areas including retail kiosks, shaded benches overlooking the beach as well as public and health amenities.”

The Dh100 million development, which is touted to be Dubai’s longest Corniche at 14km, stretches from the Jumeirah Mosque to the Burj Al Arab. The project overlooks Jumeirah’s six prime residential pockets and will complement the Dubai Canal, linking the Dubai Creek to the Arabian Sea through Jumeirah Corniche.

The Jumeirah Corniche Project will turn the sand beach into a social and sports hub of the city, fitted with public utilities not only for beachgoers but also for jogging, walking, and cycling enthusiasts.

Once completed, the Corniche will have a unique landscaping and flooring works. It will have decorative lighting to entice health enthusiasts to maximise the use of the Corniche even at night.
