- Global Village is set to feature a host of new attractions and developments this year.
Global Village, the region’s leading cultural, shopping and entertainment family outdoor destination, will open its gates to visitors on October 21 in time for the expected influx of visitors this Eid Al Adha.
Based on last season’s data alone, the Village welcomed nearly five million visitors from the UAE, the region and other parts of the globe.
“Global Village remains one of Dubai’s most popular and well-loved attractions and continues to attract millions of people from across the UAE, the GCC and other markets every year,” said Saeed Ali bin Redha, Global Village’s chief executive.
“In a few weeks, we will be announcing details of a number of exciting new attractions and developments that will make Global Village an even more attractive visitor destination over this coming season,” he added.
With a planned closing date of March 30, 2013, the village will be open for 161 days, with a team of more than 10,000 people employed during the six months of operation.
“Every year, the Global Village team is hard at work with our partners, strategists and investors to create new reasons for local families and visitors to come and experience our entertainment destination that brings the flavours and cultures of many countries around the world to one location,” bin Redha said.
Since its opening in 1997 on the Creek Side across from Dubai Municipality, Global Village has been based at various locations before finding its permanent home on Emirates Road in 2005.
The Village has expanded over the years from first hosting 18 country pavilions in 2007 to more than the current 40.
Its breathtaking live performances, mouth-watering cuisine, authentic handicrafts and merchandise as well as thrilling rides have helped secure its reputation as one of the region’s most popular homegrown tourism and cultural leisure brands.
Entry prices are still Dh10 but children less than three years old will be admitted free of charge. It has facilities to accommodate huge numbers of visitors and has parking spaces for 16,500 cars.
