Dubai: Eid in Dubai celebrations go beyond shopping as the fun-filled parks and several streets prove. The various activities are attracting families and children — both residents and tourists. The idea behind these programmes is to revive the concept of family togetherness during Eid Al Adha.

At the Eid Fun Fair in Zabeel Park on Sunday, Abir Al Zahri, a tourist from from Saudi Arabia, said the park offering was a good idea to keep her children occupied and harness their creativity.

Abir has also marked her calendar for the first Dubai Water Bash Day at Zabeel Park on Friday.

Hazim Fareeh from Jordan has also brought his family to Dubai for the Eid holiday.

On top of his agenda on Sunday was the ‘Eid Fun Fair’ at Zabeel Park. His children described their Dubai visit as “one of their best moments”.

The festive spirit spilled over into selected locations in the emirate, specifically at Jumeirah Beach Residence, where talented artists took the word fun to the next level through their street performances.

A band of drummers clad in colourful costumes resembling chickens attracted crowds with their entertaining acts.

The ‘Chicken Band’ was followed by a group of stilt-walkers who amazed spectators with their acrobatics.

The same performance will be held on Monday at 4pm, 6pm and 8pm.

Al Saif Street near the Dubai Creek has also been drawing thousands of people every night since October 18 for the fireworks display presented by Al Zarooni Group.

The five-minute fireworks display, which uses modern pyrotechnics, begins at 9pm every night.

The Global Village also welcomed visitors for free on its opening day on Sunday as it launched its longest season ever.

A special programme dedicated to around 600 special needs children from schools across the emirate and their companions was held on opening night.

The park is increasingly becoming more ‘global’ with the addition of eight new countries, and a group from Eastern Europe, this season.

Funfair rides have also increased and total 30 at present.
