Dubai: Lucky shoppers will get a chance to bring home one kilogramme of gold or a one-carat diamond ring every day for 32 days during the Dubai Shopping Festival(DSF).

Gold and diamond lovers who purchase gold worth Dh500 at any participating outlet in the city will be entitled to one raffle coupon for a chance to win the one kilogramme gold (worth around Dh146,000) and a diamond solitaire ring.

Shoppers who purchase diamonds, pearls and watches worth Dh500 will double their chances of winning as they will receive two raffle coupons.

The nineteenth edition of DSF will be held from January 2 to February 2, under the theme “Shop at Your Best”.

“This year we have 350 participating outlets, an increase of 50 outlets from last year” said Laila Suhail, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, the agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), which organises DSF.

Laila said DSF visitors this year are also expected to increase by 10 per cent from last year’s three million visitors.

“The gold and jewellery trade has been a cornerstone of Dubai’s retail sector and a key component of the winning element offered by DSF every year,” she said. Chandu Siroya, Vice Chairman of Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG), a non-profit trade group associated with the Dubai jewellery industry with around 600 members, said they have a 19-year-old partnership with DSF.

“Since DSF and DGJG’s inception in 1996, 700 kilogramme of gold worth Dh153 million have been given away as prizes. As gold retailers we hope to make Dubai the centre of gold and diamonds —‘The city of gold’.”

Siroya said DSF and DGJG have reintroduced the one kilogramme gold daily giveaway after five years of giving away less than one kilogramme gold prizes because the gold prices have finally settled down.

“We increased the prices because we also want to provide the best for our shoppers,” he said.
