Abu Dhabi: Around 1500 charity works have been launched across the UAE by 270 local and federal departments to mark Zayed Humanitarian Day, Mariam Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs told Gulf News.

Commemorating the day, the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation (KBZF) has also announced its full support in building the Shaikh Zayed Mosque in the city of Wuzhong in China. The Shaikh Zayed Mosque will accommodate 1,000 worshippers in a prayer hall and separate facilities for men and women.

A number of charitable and humanitarian events have been held by the Emirates ID to show love and loyalty to Zayed and spread the spirit of giving among the UAE society members.

To mark the day, a group of Al Wahda Centre of Emirates ID in Abu Dhabi has visited people with special needs at Ewaa centre and gave symbolic gifts to please them, enter happiness to their hearts and follow the footsteps of the great leader, whose names has been linked with benevolence and generosity.

The Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation has also held a photo exhibition to reflect great values and good deeds implanted in the hearts of the people in the Emirati society by Shaikh Zayed and feature the generous humanitarian projects and achievements implemented within the UAE.

Around Dh 800 million have been sent by the Zayed Foundation since it was established in 1992 to elevate the suffering and instill the spirit of love and compassion across the UAE and abroad.

Additionally, the Foundation has built Zayed Mother and Child Hospital in Yemen to provide relief and support to needy families as well as building several mosques, libraries and schools in Palestine, Egypt, and Lebanon and others.

Some universities in the UAE have also marked Zayed Humanitarian Work Day by granting students several education opportunities.

As the UAE is one of the world’s most generous countries in assisting those in need, Abu Dhabi University announced that a fund-raising initiative to raise Dh15 million will run throughout Ramadan to help 300 talented students in the UAE.

In collaboration with Zakat Fund and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, the University is working to make world-class education more accessible for students within the UAE.

A total of Dh29.94 million has been allocated by His Highness Dr. Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi. Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to renovate the historic Egyptian Scientific Institute during violence happened in Cairo in 2012.

The initiative was not only confined to bearing the cost of the new building, but also to donate copies of several original manuscripts and historic volumes.
