The Filipino worker operated heavy machinery without a licence, police say
Dubai: A Filipino worker died instantly on Monday from severe injuries while operating heavy machinery without a licence at a stone crushing plant located at a mountain in Fujairah, according to a report published in the Arabic daily Al Khaleej.
Major Rashid Al Hammoodi, Director of the Traffic Department at Masafi police, said that the accident occurred due to negligence, and disregard of traffic laws and regulations.
Lieutenant Colonel Ali Rashid Al Yamahi, Director of Traffic and Patrols department at the General Directorate of Fujairah Police, said that the police will be conducting an extensive inspection campaign targeting stone crushing plants in the emirate, which exceed 70 establishments.
Officers will visit plants and inspect heavy machinery to ensure that they are in sound condition and their registration is valid. Officers will also inspect whether workers are licensed for operating heavy machineries.
Al Yamahi said that a team of officers was formed, and that the campaign was launched due to repeated occurrences of workers dying at such plants when they were operating heavy machinery when they were not qualified to do so.
