Abu Dhabi: UAE’s volunteer ambassadors sent by the Zayed Giving Initiative shared the joy of Eid Al Fitr with displaced Syrians living in refugee camps in Jordan.

The Emirati voluntary social programme organised various events to celebrate Eid, drawing smiles on the faces of Syrian children who fled their homes in the wake of the troubles in Syria.

The initiative was supervised by the One Million Volunteers Campaign, launched in 2009 under the patronage of Her Highness Shaikha Fatima, Chairperson of the General Women’s Union and of the Family Development Foundation.

The celebrations were jointly organised by the General Women’s Union, the UAE embassy in Amman, the UAE Red Crescent and its Jordanian counterpart.

The volunteers visited the refugee camps, wished the families Eid Al Fitr and distributed gifts among children.

“The volunteers, who are our ambassadors presented a good model of humanitarian volunteering through organising a host of programmes to celebrate the occasion,” said Nora Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Women’s Union.
