Abu Dhabi:  A delegation from the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) hailed UAE's efforts in combating human trafficking.

The delegation praised the role played by the UAE in this regard and expressed the appreciation of UN organisations.

The remarks were made as the delegation visited the Abu Dhabi centre for victims of human trafficking.

The delegation was led by Najat Majeed Ma'alla, Special Rapporteur on the Sale of Child, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography from the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR), and was received by Sara Shuhail, executive director of the centre, and other officials.

The delegation toured the centre's various facilities where it was briefed on services and care provided to trafficking victims.

Sara gave a detailed presentation on the centre's message, vision and aims, as well as on training and health and psychological care programmes at the centre.

She spoke about the centre and its role in protecting women and child victims of human trafficking and providing them with social, legal, psychological and medical care they required to help them integrate into the mainstream of society.

Sarah said that the UN delegation's visit comes in line with the UAE's commitment to implement the recommendations made by the UAE and to implement the leadership's directives to interact positively with the UN entities.

The UAE leadership's directives are also geared towards enhancing the country's strategy to protect human rights and combat human trafficking crimes within its borders.

Meanwhile, Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the UAE National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, praised the move by Essam Eisa Al Humaidan, Dubai Attorney-General, to set up a permanent task force to handle human trafficking cases.
