Dubai: New exits and roads in Dubai’s Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) have cleared up notorious traffic jams in the development.

New exits and roads ease pressure on central roundabout in the community

- The Western Parallel Road or Shaikh Zayed Road (above) and other new exits and roads have eliminated traffic jams at Jumeirah Lakes Towers.
There is a now a direct exit to Shaikh Zayed Road (SZR) on the parallel road running from south JLT towards Dubai.
Commuters previously had to turn right at the spot where the new exit lies, drive up to a temporary roundabout in the middle of JLT and make a U-turn to access the only exit available there.
That had put them in the midst of traffic from the opposite direction also competing for the single-lane exit there, creating beelines for hundreds of metres.
Now, drivers from south JLT can bypass the right turn and exit straight onto SZR, removing pressure on the roundabout.
The opening of the Western Parallel Road (WPR) and a flyover has also eased traffic — previously there was only one main internal road in JLT.
Alternative route
The WPR is an alternative route into and out of JLT and puts commuters in the middle, near Al Mas Tower, without the need to access the main internal road.
Hayden Edgtton, a 40-year-old Australian who works in JLT, said the developments had made a “significant improvement” in traffic flow.
“The exciting thing’s that there’ll be more improvements to come when the road network is complete, and you can see from the construction taking place that these works are well under way. I’ve no doubt that JLT will be an even more accessible community in the near future,” he said.
The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai is currently working on “comprehensive improvements” to The Parallel Road and diversions projects in JLT.
According to the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, which manages JLT, about 30,000 people live in the development. There are about 62 towers and 5,200 companies operating out of JLT.
