Dubai: Tension filled the air as contestants of the Seniors Singles Gulf News Blockbusters failed to answer some tough questions on Wednesday.
Heats 7 and 8 were off to a rocky start as contestants couldn't answer majority of the general knowledge questions, and it took quite some time to fill the white spaces on the playing board.
The audience comprised participants' parents and siblings, and could be heard discussing possible answers while the contestants sat in silence pondering the questions.
Quick answers
However, as the matches got closer to the finals, the contestants proved their skills by quickly shouting the answers in a bid to out-smart each other.
One contestant in particular expressed his anxiety over wrongly-answered questions by muttering under his breath, which was echoed throughout the room over the microphone.
P.S. Aditya, a 10th grade pupil at Our Own High School, faced one of his schoolmates who was as knowledgeable as hin.
Both contestants won a match each, and the third game was the definite deal-breaker.
Aditya managed to block his competitor at all the right times and managed to successfully win heat 7.
"My friend competed in the last game and told me the questions were pretty easy, but I found that it was intense. I stayed focused on the quiz and pressed the buzzer as fast as possible," he said. His father had come to cheer him on.
"I'm taking part in the Seniors Team this week as well, so that will definitely help me prepare for the final match.
"The team and I will be getting together on Friday to quiz each other and help get prepared for the coming games," he said.
The winner of heat 8 was Sahil Gavankar.
