Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has ordered the temporary closure of a branch of the Fuala Trading Company for flouting hygiene rules.

The shop, in the Hamad Abdul Rahman Rashid building on Airport Street in Abu Dhabi city, sells chocolate, cakes and cookies. The company website says it has branches in all seven emirates.

Saeed Jasem Mohammad, Acting Director of Communication and Community Service at ADFCA, said the decision was taken after it was found violating the rules. "The general hygienic conditions were utterly bad, with cockroaches running around and the place very unclean," he said.

Protecting the public

"We are revealing the name of the company so the public takes appropriate decision to protect themselves from unsafe food.

"We warn all food establishments that do not comply with the rules and regulations that we will not only take stringent action against them, but reveal their names to the public as well."

Mohammad called on residents to bring to the authority's notice any food safety violations they come across.

Fuala Trading Company were not available for comment yesterday.

ADFCA has temporarily closed several prominent food outlets in the emirate in the past for ignoring food safety rules.

The temporarily closed outlets are permitted to open as soon as they rectify the problems pointed out by the inspectors. Some of the temporarily closed shops have even re-opened on the same day after rectifying shortcomings.
