Dubai A 22-year-old special needs Indian expat with cerebral palsy is looking for a job so he can help his parents.

A candidate as keen and confident as any other, Dubai-based Michio Menezes said he is adept with computers and filing documents and can work at any place willing to give him an opportunity. “I am good at typing, Excel and Word. I can also do other tasks like photocopying and filing documents,” said Michio who has passed out of Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs.

Michio added he is desperate for employment as his family has been through a difficult time. “At one time, both my parents lost their jobs. We were completely shattered. I don’t want us to ever be in that situation again. I want to help them in whatever way I can,” he said in fluent English.

Michio’s parents are working again but his mother Janet said: “We have a long way to go before our lives return to normalcy.”

A SURVIVOR

She said Michio means a survivor in Japanese: “We chose this name for him because he is a fighter. He ran into severe complications when he was born. The doctors gave us 48 hours but he turned the corner. Today, after all these years, he remains a fighter. He wants to be independent to the extent he can. It touches me that he wants to help us. He constantly motivates himself and is determined to get a job. I can only pray his dream comes true. Nothing can be more gratifying than that for all of us.”

She said Michio who has a pleasant disposation is mentally able and alert.

“Physically, he moves around with crutches. He is toilet trained and can help himself to the washroom at home. At work too, he will be able to manage once he gets familiar with the surroundings.”

Special request

A special child with a special request, Michio said: “Like other sons, I too want to do something and be of some support to my parents. I also want to keep busy and be independent. I will be happy to work for anyone who employs me and gives me a chance.”
