Sharjah: Hundreds of people, including women and children, participated yesterday in a charity run to raise funds for earthquake victims in Haiti.

The run was organised by KEF Holding in Hamriya Free Zone in Sharjah.

"We got great response as more than 500 people concerned about the victims of the Haiti quake participated in the event," said organiser Gabriel Iqbal, Senior Manager of Emirates Techno Casting, a division of KEF Holding.

"Our company donated Dh100,000 and around 200 employees also announced they will give one day's salary for the quake victims," Iqbal added.

He said the company officials will hand over the donations, including the cash and relief goods, tomorrow to Red Crescent officials.

"We have already prepared eight big wooden boxes of relief goods including clothes, toys, shoes and other items and are still receiving more goods," he said as he urged residents to sent their donations to the Community Centre in Hamriya Free Zone by tomorrow.

Condolences

Two-minutes' silence was also observed by the participants of the charity to express their condolences for those who lost their lives in the quake.

The massive intensity 7 quake that rocked Haiti about a week ago has left more than 75,000 dead and a million homeless creating a huge humanitarian crisis. Aid is pouring in to help the victims.
