Abu Dhabi: A booklet on people with special needs: their rights and our obligations, was issued on Sunday.

The booklet, issued by the Law Respect Culture Bureau and Human Rights Department at the Secretariat general of the office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, deals with the most important legal rights of people with special needs in accordance with national legislation and international conventions ratified by the UAE.

It also outlines the legal obligations imposed by the legislature on the community to ensure their rights.

The booklet's release coincided with International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr Salah Al Ghoul, Director of the Law Respect Culture Bureau, said these issues have become a global issue.

"These matters were included in the UAE constitution. I call on government, federal bodies and civil society organisations to implement legislations and laws, and to exert all practical and scientific efforts to ensure the integration of people with special needs into society.

"This emphasises their status and value regardless of their capabilities," Al Ghoul said.
