Dubai: Google online services, including Gmail, were allegedly disrupted on Tuesday morning, said IT manager Joel Minezes of The First Group.
“It was down at around 8:30am when I came into work. The online services resumed after 9am. It is still unsure what caused the disruption. It is estimated that this has affected users worldwide. We received several support calls stating that Google was down – the most widely used search engine,” Minezes told Gulf News.
If true, the length of disruption and the reason are yet to be determined.
News of the Gmail malfunction was circulated on Twitter. “Is anybody else’s gmail not working?” said Titilayo Ogunrinde who posted at 12.31am. “Gmail is - Oops… the system encountered a problem (#796) ... aka - not working ...” tweeted Nikolai Aleksandrenk (@fix3d) at 12.05 am. Another early morning comment was posted by Kyle Mahoney (@kylemahoe) at 2.08am, “Twitter is working on this computer, but not gmail? #why.”
Meera, a source from the Google office in the UAE, told Gulf News that nothing has been reported so far. She said, “It might be international, not internal [UAE]. As far as I know, there have been no calls regarding Gmail or any other service.”
