Abu Dhabi: Opera lovers were given a rare opportunity to enjoy one of the classical world's more beloved operas, Puccini's La Boheme, which was performed at the Emirates Palace Auditorium on Thursday and yesterday.

Boasting a cast of critically acclaimed artists, including Grammy Award winner, soprano Ana Maria Martinez, the opera was performed as part of the classical music programme of the Abu Dhabi Festival 2010.

"This has been a very nice experience for all of us…I would like to thank Huda Al Khamis Kanoo [the founder and Artistic Director of the Abu Dhabi Festival] because she works very hard to bring the best of the classical music world to the region," Franco Moretti, General Manager, Puccini Festival, said.

"Last year, we performed in Oman and Qatar. So far this year, we've performed in Syria and Libya, and after the shows in Abu Dhabi we will be going to Tripoli on June 1.

"I've noticed that there is a lot of interest for this kind of music in the region," he added.

Franco also said that because of this interest he would like to draw up various methods of introducing Puccini to the Middle East.
