Dubai: All eight public Libraries in Dubai will now offer Arabic books in Braille for the very first time.

This initiative comes under the directives of Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, and in collaboration with the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs.

The libraries will offer 44 titles in Arabic Braille including including ‘My Vision’, the acclaimed book by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The Authority plans on continuing to develop more books in order to reach the visually challenged.

Abdul Rahman Ebrahim, Head of the Dubai Public Library Department, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, said: “Since its inception, the public libraries have served as the preferred and one-stop source of knowledge for community members, providing them with options to broaden their understanding of various subjects. The introduction of Arabic books in Braille will allow us to reach out to an entirely different section of our community, enabling them to acquire a wealth of education.”

The Arabic Braille books will be available at Al Safa Public Library, Al Mankhool Public Library, Al Rashidiya Public Library, Al Twar Public Library, Umm Suqeium Electronic Library, Hor Al Anz Public Library, Al Ras Public Library, and Hatta Public Library.
