Dubai: A number of programmes have been lined up in the UAE today to celebrate Pakistan's National Day.
The highlight of the Pakistan Day programmes is the honouring ceremony being held at the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Two prominent businessmen, Arif Masood Naqvi, a Dubai-based Pakistani businessman and Mohammad Al Abbar, Chairman of the Emaar Group, will be given the Sitara-i-Imtiaz - the highest civilian award given by the President of Pakistan.
Dr Zafar Iqbal, Press Counsellor at the Pakistan Embassy, said that the businessmen are being honoured with the top award for their services for Pakistan. Emaar has launched huge housing and commercial projects in Pakistan.
A flag hoisting ceremony will be held at 8am at the Embassy and a similar function is being arranged at the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai.
The Embassy will also hold an official reception for diplomats, officials and leading community members on Sunday at the Abu Dhabi Hilton Hotel. A similar reception will be held in Dubai by the Consulate tomorrow at Le Meridian Hotel in Dubai.
Different Pakistani community groups are also holding functions to mark the day. The Pakistan Association in Dubai is organising a family variety show to mark the day. The show will be held at the Pakistan Sports and Recreation Club in Dubai at 8.30pm today.
The Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) will hold a reception for community members at the Asian Palace Restaurant in Ajman.
