Price of gas cylinders hiked in Sharjah
Dh10 to Dh16 rise is second increase of the year

- The price of a small (11kg) cylinder has risen from Dh55 to Dh65, while the price of the medium (22kg) cylinder has risen from Dh120 to Dh130.
Sharjah: Sharjah residents who are still not connected to the LPG network, will now have to shell out an extra Dh10 to Dh16 for every gas cylinder after the second price hike this year took effect from on Tuesday.
The price hike, which affects gas cylinders of all sizes, was attributed to a global increase in gas prices as a result of adverse weather conditions and political instability in some countries that impacted production and supply contracts, according to the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa).
Confirming the increase in gas cylinder prices from Tuesday, a company in Sharjah said the price of a small (11kg) cylinder has risen from Dh55 to Dh65, while the price of the medium (22kg) cylinder has risen from Dh120 to Dh130. The price of the big (44kg) cylinder, which was Dh234 earlier, is now Dh250.
Prices were hiked in the second week of January, with the small cylinder that used to cost Dh48 in December last year increasing to Dh58, the medium sized cylinder increasing from Dh100 to Dh117 and the big cylinder from Dh180 to Dh235.
This brings the total price hike this year to between 28 and 39 per cent so far.
