Abu Dhabi: Preparations are underway for a major international child protection conference in Abu Dhabi next month.

The UAE will play host to the Virtual Global Taskforce’s fifth biennial international Conference in Abu Dhabi from December 11-13.

And a statement from the Ministry of Interior confirmed the build-up to the event is taking place.

Titled, International Collaboration: An enabler for prevention, the conference will discuss methods of combatting online child sexual abuse

The conference will see experts fly in from Australia, the UK, the US, New Zealand and the VGT’s four other members including its only Arab member, the UAE.

Major General Nasser Lakhreibani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Head of the Higher Committee on Child Protection and UAE representative in the VGT Board of Management, stated that preparations are corresponding with this significant event, which spreads knowledge on international-best practices.

He indicated that the Conference will discuss mechanisms to promote efforts on child protection and ways to cooperate with other international agencies in combating risks to children.

The event will also shed light on the Virtual Global Taskforce’s recent achievements.

“This conference introduces the best technical police practices, in addition to enhance international cooperation in child protection,” Major General Lakhreibani said.

Moreover, he noted that the conference will reflect a positive image of the UAE and introduce leading national projects and initiatives, in line with the UAE 2021 vision which aims to make the UAE one of the best countries in the world in relation to child protection policies and procedures.

Major General Lakhreibani also noted that the Ministry of Interior is dedicated to achieving the UAE’s vision of being one of the best countries in the world with regards child protection.

This objective also comes in line with the vision of Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to see that the UAE becomes a hub for excellence in all areas of child protection.

The Virtual Global Taskforce is one of the biggest international child protection organisations in the world, with members including the Australian Federal Police, the UK Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre(CEOP), the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Interpol and the UAE Ministry of Interior - as well as a number of new members.

The VGT was established in 2003 with the remit of fighting online child abuse, dismantling international online pornography networks, undertaking secret investigations in cybercrimes, exchanging information with global authorities and targeting child abusers.
