Dubai/Sharjah: Police have warned residents to take precautions against the risk of fireworks during Eid Al Fitr celebrations and during the holiday.

Dubai Police's General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology cautioned public against the trade of fireworks and the widespread use of it by children.

The department emphasised the risk and fire hazards associated with children playing with fireworks.

Ahmad Mohammad Ahmad, head of the Fire Investigation Department at the General Department of Forensic and Criminology, said residents should be on guard to prevent home fires. He said a wrongly-placed incence burner near a flammable object can cause fires.

Meanwhile in Sharjah, police arrested a gang that sold fireworks for Eid celebrations.

"This year we succeeded in arresting a gang that planned to sell huge quantity of fireworks, and one of the arrested suspects was hiding all the fireworks in his bedroom," said Colonel Mohammad Rashid Bayat, Director of the Investigation and Criminal Department (CID) at Sharjah Police.
