Sharjah: With the weather starting to heat up in the UAE, authorities are advising beachgoers and marine enthusiasts to take extra care on the water after a 26-year-old British man was killed in a jetski collision that left another man injured.
Police said it is believed the man died instantly at Al Mamzar beach park when the jetski he was operating struck another jetski, say Sharjah Police.
The incident happened on Thursday evening on a stretch of water popular with jetskiers, police told Gulf News.
The British man, identified by police only by his initials, M.A., collided with another jetski operated by a German, 26, who suffered minor injuries and was transported to Al Kuwaiti hospital after a rescue unit and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene of the accident.
The condition of the German national was not available at press time.
The body of the Briton was transported to a hospital for confirmation of death and an autopsy.
The case is now with Sharjah police from the Al Buhairah station.
Sharjah Police urged beachgoers to follow instructions to avoid fatal accidents. He advised jetski users to wear life jackets and recommended that swimmers should avoid areas of the sea with high waves and strong currents.
