Dubai: Most of Dubai Police security services are now officially open to the public via Android smart phone apps.
Dubai Police are opening channels on smartphones for boosting and reshuffling security and justice activities.
With the new services, the public will be given a chance to take pictures or videos of a crime or traffic accident and send them directly to the special server at Dubai Police.
People can pay their traffic fines, complain to police, search for the nearest police station and even send direct complaints to the acting chief of police or to the deputy chief of police and general security.
Everyone can use the service if they have a smartphone and a valid ID card.
Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Acting Chief of Dubai Police, said in a press conference yesterday that Dubai is perhaps one of the few cities in the world where an ordinary person can get online access to any official, such as the highest person in the government. The public can access the security services right from their smartphones.
“The service is officially open to the public free of charge. People can pay fines, pre-impounded fine payments and request for a clearance certificate from the traffic police as well as get information about the road status before they leave home,” Maj Gen Al Mazeina said.
Maj Gen Al Mazeina said by downloading police apps on Android people can get security services that include obtaining the good conduct certificate which is available only for Emiratis now.
“The good conduct certificate will be open soon for expatriates,” he said.
“One of our important services available on the Android apps is preventing crimes by providing police about information and reports about crimes or suspected crimes.”
Case inquiry
He added that people who have a case at any of the police stations can inquire about it via the new app.
Tourists can communicate with the tourist security via Android in case they need police assistance.
Maj Gen Al Mazeina said the Android app services include a community services such as the SOS-emergency call in which people can press the SOS button and use the voice command on the smartphone to call for help. “They can say help me in Arabic or English and the police emergency and operation room will call them back immediately,” he said.
“The public can complain to me directly or to the Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and General Security, Dahi Khalfan Tamim,” he said. “If one feels that the police has not cooperated with him or her or if a person feels no justice from our side they can contact us directly via the app,” he added.
Through its social media service, people can check about pharmacies on duty and also can apply for the critically-ill patients’ service for those who are suffering from an illness that has put their life in danger — this service will be linked directly to the operation room.
Its fast track service will allow people to file a complaint or report via smartphone and to make an appointment at the police station.
He said that in order to use the app people need to have a valid ID card because all the information will be taken from the ID card of the person who is using the app. The service will be available on iPhones soon and can be downloaded in the UAE in English and Arabic.
