Dubai: A total of 704 traffic accidents were recorded during the rainy spell between 9pm on Tuesday and 1pm on Wednesday. The accidents ranged from minor to serious. Brigadier Omar Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Director of the Command and Control Centre at the General Directorate of Operations at Dubai Police, said the command and control centre also received 5,722 phone call in the same period.

Brig Al Shamsi said drivers should exercise extra caution when there is a weather change, adding that there are rules that must be adhered to when it rains. He said the fog, dust and rain affect visibility, pointing out that traffic accidents occurring during bad weather tend to be more dangerous.

Dubai Police’s Twitter account was very active during the rainy spell, as it continued tweeting tips and advice.
