Abu Dhabi: Nominations for the 2008 Abu Dhabi Awards commenced on Sunday, with more focus on school children who are encouraged to participate in the fourth annual event.

The awards are open to everyone of all ages and are meant to recognise people who have contributed in benefiting the community.

The awareness campaign started on July 31 and will run until October 5.

The recognition ceremony for the 2008 nominees, who will be selected by a judging committee made up of senior government officials, will take place in December.

Awards will be personally given to winners during the ceremony by General Shaikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, at the Emirates Palace Hotel.
